A Neighbourhood Walk – Coromandel

A place where every day’s a Sunday.

We all know that it’s impossible to have Sunday every day. Though for us it certainly feels like it here, it could be the laidback vibe, the array of all things that remind us of holiday time or sounds of waves crashing on the foreshore.

On this particular Monday morning/afternoon constitutional, as I pass yet another local out for a breath or two of fresh air, unlike me, they have a four-legged family member in tow. I smile, wave and as I approach closer I greet both or more with a “Good Morning”, though one kindly person reminded me it is now afternoon, not morning.

“Not to worry dear, after all, you are on Coro time now”, with a smile she moves on.

Yes, we are indeed on Coro time. Where time really does seem to stand still, and permanently stuck on relaxed mode.

I can’t help while out walking, but to reflect a little on life, as it has a way of reminding me what’s essential in life, and just how beautiful Aotearoa/New Zealand is.

Here are a few snapshots of my morning/afternoon constitutional walk.

The cute caravan

This place where bush and beach meet, properties are inundated with caravans and boats.

Horse walking instead of dog walking

Did I mention that horse walking is a “thing” to do down the main road? If that doesn’t rock your boat, this video of a local paddle boarder’s experience with an orca might just hit the spot. An incredible encounter with an Orca.

Te Puru School

At high tide, my beach walk is shortened, which means I get to pass this colourful school that is sited right on the foreshore. A bright spot when the sun disappears.

A day when the sea is flat, it gives the impression we are in a lakeside position.

Hey, when you are staying in an area that was classed as the top spot for “hippy-ness” signs like these are plentiful.

  6. Beautiful 💚 I’ve only seen ‘horse walking’ once when we were on holiday (except he wasn’t walking) – the chap was cycling along with his horse trotting by his side!

  8. Great walk with you Suzanne, love the horse walking 😀 Oh my word the Paddle boarders close shave with the Orca – heck I had the shivers – the video straight after that too was so scary where a family of Orca’s approach a swimmer – Heck!!

        1. Maybe because they are clever and know there is a difference. Most animals attack when provoked or when humans don’t adhere to the basics such as don’t go between a mother and its offspring, blood in the water, mating season are just a few no-no’s 🙂
