Portugal Street Art – Rough and Smooth

Gathering photographs to take part in Jude’s monthly Photography Challenge was fun and gave me a chance to organise my files from previous travels around Portugal. Jude’s photography challenge focus is on texture. To be more precise, the Rough and Smooth.

My take on this is focussing on the illusion of smooth via shadows and wall art. The walls are old and rough, with the art being fresh and an illusion of smoothness. Photographs are from mainly Lisboa, Portugal. A city and country we loved to visit on more than one occasion.

I shall post a photo each Sunday within a particular theme or technique which will change monthly. Each theme will be accompanied by a brief explanation about the topic and some hints and tips.

  5. I’m a big fan of street art and these are great and, I think, more textural in that you’ve chosen to show them in black and white. It makes the perfect contracts for the final image. Thanks for giving us something else to think about.

  8. These are wonderful Suzanne. The black and white certainly makes me focus on the texture and the third one is exceptional. I mostly like street art when it is truly art and not random graffiti. You have chosen some very interesting images.

    1. Thanks Jude, I’m enjoying playing around with changing images into black and white. I have a selection on our walls gives you an idea how much I enjoy them.

  12. I just love street art – especially the colourfulness of it, but your black and white (and grey) pics were really beautiful too – that mosaic of the woman’s face in particularly was lovely.

    1. Hiya Sue, yes there are mosaics, the wall slopes down without a visible join with the pavement. Clever folk out there. We are both well and hope you are too x

    1. My favourite is the bombing of flowers, in colour it is an orange background with rose coloured flowers. Yes, the laying down seems to resonate with a few of late. Hope all are enjoying your pondering in your new abode?

      1. That one is eye-catching too.
        I am enjoying the time at home, in between having to work. I must be quite a homebody, but then a new home is exciting in lots of ways and I wish to spend time in it. Thanks for asking, Suzanne.
