Soaking in the views and not fumes
Cyclists are back on the road
Like it was in the good old days
Lazy sunshine hours stretching out for days
Mother earth breathes easily
The background hum
Birds not cars
Cycling in the breeze
Listening to the rustling trees.

Nice nostalgic post: only the helmet doesn’t come from 1969. Do you remember the fuss when they were introduced? ‘Real men don’t wear ….’ etc.

Thanks Margaret and you’re right about the helmet. Unfortunately, I don’t have any photos of myself or my siblings on bikes. Yes, I do remember the debate regarding the wearing of helmets. There are certainly two schools of thought.

Not any more I guess. Nearly everyone seems to wear them now – the more stream-lined the better!

As long as they are correctly put on they will hopefully reduce any head fractures. I still see a few not wearing them. It’s an offense if you’re not wearing them.

Those were the days.. I remember jumping on my older sister’s bicycle when she wasn’t home and taught myself to ride.. 😉

Fantastic poem and sentiment, Suz. If only we could combine the good things from 1969 (which was before I was born) and the positives of 2020 into a healthy mix that benefits all – humans and nature.

Very true, like most things in life we miss what we haven’t got. The stillness was a treat and I loved cycling around with hardly any traffic. Having said that we do have excellent cycle/walk trails so there is no need to use the roads. When a 2 metre distance was required most of the trails weren’t appropriate.
