A long journey,
in a small car
packed for two.
Barely making it
up the hill.
She wasn't going to push;
he made it work.
On a Coromandel road
leading to tranquil bush.
As dusk cooled the air,
The BBQ roared into life,
meat slapped on a hot grill
and wine uncorked.
Under starry skies,
fire glowing beneath.
Celestial candles flicking,
they gently slide
into steaming warmth.
Tranquillity and romance
shrouded by drifting smoke.
Shivering and wide-eyed
while serenaded by a
boisterous bloody possum,
under starry skies.
Who would've predicted
overflowing water,
to dampen spirits
and the bathtub fire?.
It was time for bed.
Thank you for reading. Now, let’s have a chat.

What a picture it conjures, Suzanne! Love and companionship. Long may it continue, despite the challenges.

Thanks very much, Jo and I smiled at the mention of challenges. That short sojourn was when my brother owned property at Waikawau Bay and we were starry eyed. If it wasn’t possums there were rats to unnerve the most hardy of souls.

I thought they were hills but no just rats walking along the window pane trying to get indoors. Yes, I screamed.

Haha, I know, as one came flying out of a fruit tree at our orchard years ago. You could hear the screams from miles away.

That’s a vacation that had its good and bad aspects!

Yes, though the positive aspects outweighed the negative pesky ones.

All good, Anabel. I received it. Blame it on the possum.

Anabel, I appreciate that you persevered with your comment. It’s annoying when it happens.

The things we did when we were young. I have never built a bath outside! But cars struggling up tracks they weren’t built for, yes. Great memories.

Yes, the things we did. My brother was building the bath. The photos of the bath were pre Les era. Good memories.
