A Summer to Remember #99wordstory

Summer was sublime.
Ohope beach a carefree paradise.
The adventurous trio were wonderfully thirteen years old.

Hipster jeans and singlets were seemingly painted on if our parents were correct. Cycling was our mode of liberation. Melted tarseal stench greeted us as we laboriously cycled.

Then, salt air mixed with sweat as squealing brakes brought us to the bottom of the hill. Towels out, bikinis on, bodies slathered with oil, admiring painted toenails as swinging hair swished like a shampoo ad into a ponytail.

Three sun-kissed bodies, baring their souls and brimming with anticipation for the adventures that lay ahead.

......................................

Currently, we’re staying in Ohope, and yes, it’s still sublime, though with a more relaxed vibe in the shade than topless bathing on the beach. This time includes visiting well-loved family, many leisurely long walks along the hilly terrain, and an expansive sandy beach instead of zooming up and down the hill between Whakatane and Ohope on a cycle.

    1. Thanks and I agree, Eilene as I don’t have any desire to be a recycled teenager, I’m not into self torture πŸ˜‰ Though as you say, most of us had more carefree times than worrying about life dramas.

  1. Those days maybe a long way behind us now – but at least we have the memories. My wife doesn’t want to look back because it makes her feel sad, but I’m just grateful that we can remember what those days were like. Love the photograph Suzanne!

    1. Thanks, Malc. I’m enjoying writing up stories with just 99 words and I use life experiences of myself or others. Not so much sitting here dwelling over memories and we just happen to here in Ohope in which the story is based.
