On a Canal in a BOAT

Do you remember I wrote about a time we enjoyed watching the canal boats and having a stroll down by a canal in Northern England one sunny day in 2017? No?

Well, we did. It was a delightful stroll.

Our next adventure will see us chugging down another canal in a different country.  In a boat not beside one, admiring those canal boats.

First, we have a few days in Amsterdam. Read about our last trip to this intriguing city

Then we will be heading off to a smaller town in the Netherlands countryside [see below a rough guide of our trip]. Which there are many canals to explore.

Canal boating route

What I love about this trip, is that we can still get excited about the planning, anticipation and all that comes with a new adventure after years of travelling.

This trip is going to be more about sharing a unique experience with people we have known for nearly 10 years.  It is going to be a new experience for all of us.

Though the Squire is the only one that has 30 years experience on various boats. For two of us we shall be the crew [until such time we get hold of that steering wheel], and the fourth a trainee skipper.

Let’s see how long it takes to establish our “sea legs”.

Now while we are doing this I won’t be blogging, I had this image of me trying to type and read in very little light at 2 am while everyone else was asleep.

Not the best idea I have concocted.

The only solution is to have a complete break, to enjoy the new experience and being with friends we don’t usually see on a regular basis. Due to them living down South and us being generally up North when we are in New Zealand.

Catch up with you all in a month or so.

Then I shall be reading your posts and rocking out a few myself in October when we will be housesitting in France.

Though I will post a few photographs, which knowing me, will be more than a few, on Instagram.

    1. Thanks Em, much appreciated. Yes, looking forward to having to seeing more of the Netherlands. Too bad we aren’t going further down south, as both your photographs were very enticing.

  1. 6 words? 🙂 🙂 Now this time I’m really jealous! House sitting has some appealing aspects but boat sitting is a whole different enterprise. I don’t suppose you have space for another, quite slender, crew member? 😦

    1. Haha, good try Jo. Anyway, you have much to look forward to soon you won’t have time for a boat trip. It’s not boat sitting we are all hiring it for a couple of weeks. For us its a treat for the Squires entry into the sixties 🙂 What did you mean by 6 words?

    1. Thanks Sam, we will and for our first night we aren’t venturing too far so we can get used to how the boats bits and pieces work. Xx

  2. Oh wow, I didn’t realise you were going on this trip for a month – how wonderful!

I’m going to ‘pick your brains’ when you’ve finished as it’s something I would like to do…hope The Squire doesn’t become A Pirate of the Canal!
Sea legs? You made me laugh! 😉

    1. Just for two weeks. We are loving it. Les also laughed at my comment on “sealegs” 😊 Pick away could be interesting what you find 😜

        1. Lots of fun though we did have a panic moment when mooring in strong wind. We survived 😊 On the “motorway” at the moment. Huge barges and busy with other boats and yachts! Magic 😎
