Hello 2020, and the F*ckIT List

Do you ever feel like you’re in Episode 10, Season 5 of your life, and the writers are doing crazy, outrageous, mostly unwanted stuff just to keep your life interesting?

Well, sometimes Life at No22 feels just like that: weird and annoying.  A while ago, I mentioned a F*ckIT Bucket List.  I don’t remember. Well, you will just have to trust me; I did way back during this time last year.

It’s my new Bucket List.

The usual Bucket List lists everything you want to do before you die  Bucket list items can be places you would like to visit, goals you would like to reach, and never forgetting those delectable and desirable dreams.

I have always believed that writing things down is essential  . It helps keep us motivated, sharpen our focus, and remind us to take that necessary step to turn the good stuff of our dreams into our reality.

So, do I have a bucket list  Yep, I certainly do  More fun is having that necessary F*ckit List alongside that Bucket List  It’s my mental list, and I always add to it  The F*ckIT List is my list of things I decide to do longer give a damn about  It takes the pressure off and keeps life more enjoyable and straightforward.

A “To-Never-Do” List.

This listing is not a negative; it is just a selection of “stuff” to put aside and spend less energy on when energy needs to be directed toward more desirables in my life  . W. when I add things to my F*ckIT List, I free myself from the mental burden of knowing they’re still undone or unresolved.

My F*ckIT List

Training for a marathon.

My knees literally hugged me when that ambition went on the list. I do believe they would’ve done it if they could. My knees kindly reminded me that I achieved 10 half marathons and triathlons during my fifties.

Sticking to a rigid time and place for exercising

I now love walking with no pressure to keep going fast, just the pure joy of being sweaty and red-faced for no damned reason than keeping fit and welcoming more endorphins.

Count Calories

My mantra now is “Energy In and Energy Out”  Much easier to ignore.

Tolerance of negative and unmotivated people.

NOW, this is a big one  . I no longer want to tolerate those who choose to stay on that detrimental treadmill without the motivation to change  W. Whether that be an unhealthy lifestyle or life in general , you have a choice; many do not. Deal with your shit, and don’t pass it on. It’s not welcome in our lives.

Stop Apologising

Sort of goes nicely with the above, like strawberries and cream.

Learn a new language.

Who was I kidding? That is never going to happen; some would say I am a verbally challenged person in real life. Tried, failed and had a laugh. We lived in communities where English was rarely spoken, but we survived, and my sign language went up a scale or two.

Go faster and more downhill on my bike

Turkish Style

Well, that was taken with not one ounce of seriousness. I still love biking at a granny’s speed. Scare me by whizzing past; you will likely receive a finger salute most politely.

Taking myself too seriously.

Like taking a tumble off a bike, get back on and keep smiling while remembering everyone takes a tumble and makes a mistake.

Eat less chocolate

Talking of mistakes, this one only lasted a week on the list. Thankfully, the period of self-torture was short. The “pleasure on the lips and not caring about the hips” was reinstated on the fun list. My life’s aim is to pursue various morsels of dark chocolate that have been created. I may even get lucky and receive some via a romantic gesture from the Squire.

Jumping out of an aeroplane.

I felt courageous that day, so I wrote it on my pleasure list. Then I remembered. Heights and huge drops. Caveat: unless the plane is in freefall, then I may consider my alternatives.

Many more items have been placed on my list; they are more private and will cause fewer waves or the elephant in the room to jump up and down if I keep them that way.

Some may even be reinstated on the fun Bucket list.

Never say Never.

Happy New Year.

  1. I love the idea of your list. I would find it much easier to keep than the usual new years resolutions. Mine would include to stop treading on eggshells around a few people. I know I am going to do something to upset them sooner or later.

    1. Thanks Anne, and walking on eggshells is so annoying. Usually the people concerned aren’t worth the effort and discomfort on our part. Upset them I say, it may clear the air 😎

  2. Hahaha love your list.. I still run and try climb a mountain quicker than yesterday.. I would never put give up chocolate on a list as I end up eating more the moment my body thinks maybe tomorrow there is no more and languages came easy to me.. A lot more difficult now as that brain power receded but a new language it will be this year.. well a language I have been trying for 3 years to learn.. will get there.. 😉

      1. I do speak a few languages already some not so fluent but the new language is because I visit twice a year and although I can speak greek to most the inhabitants I would like to speak albanian to those that can’t.. It needs persistance.. 😉

  3. I’m surprised you even considered jumping out of a plane. As a complete opposite to you, I’ve now got the distance running bug and want to run a marathon. It’s some time in the future, though. My knees will thank me if I lose a bit of weight first.

    1. Good on you April and losing weight will come with the added training.

Usually a year’s running practice and 6 months training after that. Do a few halfs and see how you go.
Been there and done it April, like I said, never say never 🙂

    1. Thanks, Eilene and I think it’s a healthy way to deal with overloading thoughts and dreams. They can always be reinstated on the “Bucket List” when needed, apart from the plane exiting 🙂

  4. Suzanne, I love your style! Some times you just gotta say F*CKIT! I did that with Scuba lessons. It was on my list for years and I finally realized that it was not going to happen. I did jump out of a plane though. That happened about six years ago. Might want to reconsider that one. No marathon training, Camino walking, piano playing, language learning, NO NO NO, but YES to healthy living, cutting myself some slack and planning adventures. Cheers to 2020!

    1. Suzanne, I’m impressed regarding you facing your fear and jumping out of a plane. I have been told there is no middle ground feeling with that sport; you either love it or hate it. Have fun, planning more adventures.

    1. Hi Janis, and thanks. I think tolerating “fools” becomes more unbearable as we age. Life is way too short. We all have days when being negative and unmotivated happens, just hopefully we don’t let it linger for too long.

  5. I’m in love with this post! We’re always working to do this or that as part of our plan to be better people yet maybe we also need a fckit list too so we can let shit go and move on.

I’m starting a fckit list in my new journal. Things I can let go of trying to do, that I’ve tried years to so like no carbs! WHAT!? I love carbs and they love my belly but I’ve never been successful at eliminating them so I’m jumping off that hamster wheel.

    Thank you for this idea!

    1. You are welcome and have fun creating that list. That made me laugh regarding the hamster wheel. I believe if it feels right just do it and everything in moderation even the good things 🙂

  6. I LOVE your list and there are several things on there (negative people, no apologising) that I would have on my own list (if I had one) I certainly also have no desire to run marathons or leap out of planes – so those never made my to-do list…..but I admire those who want to! Have a great 2020 and enjoy that list Suzanne – I think you’re on the right track!
Thanks for linking up with us at MLSTL and I’ve shared on my SM 😊

  7. Love it! I used to have “run 10kms” on my bucket list and felt so relieved when I crossed it off (and my chiropractor cheered). I’m cool with people who make a choice to continue habits that may not necessarily be doing them the greatest good as long as they’re aware that it is their choice and that they’re not prepared to do anything about it. Otherwise, quit with the whining.

  8. I LOVE this list! And you’ve inspired me to start thinking about those things that I’m not going to do anymore…I wonder if I’ll put learn another language on it or continue to keep fooling myself?

  9. I absolutely LOVE this idea … and plan to take time this weekend to create my own F*ckit List!
Definitely pinning to my #MLSTL board for future (and constant) reference 🙂

  10. Love your list Suzanne and happy 2020 to you. I think many of us are looking at our lives and trying to get the mindset of doing what we want to do rather than because we feel others expect it of us. I certainly have re-evaluated my life (a continual process really) and I love you list. We need to take the pressure off, listen to our heart and go with what is good for us. Thanks for sharing your wisdom with us at #MLSTL and you keep going at Granny speed – I can’t even ride a bike LOL:) #MLSTL

  11. You had me at the heading! Great idea to take things off the list if you really don’t want to do them. I detest running so you can safely assume running a marathon was never on my list, so I don’t need to take it off. Happy New Year!

  12. What a fab idea!! I love your F*ck It list, brilliant idea and I think everyone should do this the ‘get rid’ of all those things that people feel they should be doing when really they should just say, F*ck it! I know I have a definite list and some of the things on it are very similar to yours!

    1. Sam, I’m happy you think it’s a great idea as it is fun allocating stuff to a fu*kit list. It makes us aware we have now dealt with the crap and it’s time to enjoy the rest 😎

    2. Sam, I’m happy that you like the idea. It’s not an orginal thought as all of us do it without knowing or acknowledging it. More fun when it’s given a name and crap can be put there to remind us we have dealt with it 😎

  13. Wonderful list, Suz! People who drain us do not deserve a second of our time. Life’s too precious for that. I think wisdom comes with age – you have figured out what to put on your F*ck It list and I’m sure you’ll stick to it. 🙂

I think most of our goals to restrict ourselves from something pleasurable, makes us unhappy. As long as we can keep things in perspective and somewhat stick to a balance, we should be fine with whatever we eat and whatever we do.

As for myself – being a perfectionist and always striving for more accomplishments (and feeling guilty when I don’t) or never taking a break should be put on my 2020 F*ck It list. With many other things, of course.

    1. Thanks Liesbet and I do hope you become easier on yourself and take a few more breaks. I think we are all our worst enemies in that we criticise ourselves when it’s not necessary or helpful. I think most people are “good”, just a few of them we only want in small doses 🙂
