A tribute to the Squire’s Uncle Danny, who passed away on Saturday. A man I only knew for approximately a quarter of his 80+ years, though the Squire knew him all of his. So many good memories of hours spent chatting over lunch or a cuppa, setting the world to right.
His garden was a treat to wander around, trees laden with fruit and flower beds, and his vegetable garden was always abundant with produce. When leaving his and Marlene’s home, we felt rejuvenated by their positive energy and love of life.

Thank you to you both with love from us.

I knew him as a gentleman, His voice carried softly, like flowers on a summer breeze Hands strong enough to cultivate his veggie garden Yet gentle enough to slice freshly baked bread He was a gentleman, His garden harvesting was yours and mine. He towered over his garden with height, And cast a shadow of deep love. He was a gentleman, An early riser, face chiselled from the sun, Days interspersed with nourishment and chatter, His heart, his garden, moulded from pure gold. He was a gentleman, And sometimes totara trees fall, But in his wake, he left Waves of love to last for generations.

He sounds like a lovely man, Suzanne, and he will be well remembered. RIP.

Thanks, Jo, and yes, it will be a large gathering. He was a lovely man. His eldest daughter is going to read the poem at his service. Which makes it feel very special.
