Coromandel Dream

A long journey,
in a small car
packed for two.
Barely making it
up the hill.

She wasn't going to push;
he made it work.
On a Coromandel road
leading to tranquil bush.

As dusk cooled the air,
The BBQ roared into life,
meat slapped on a hot grill
and wine uncorked.

Under starry skies,
fire glowing beneath.
Celestial candles flicking,
they gently slide
into steaming warmth.

Tranquillity and romance
shrouded by drifting smoke.
Shivering and wide-eyed
while serenaded by a
boisterous bloody possum,
under starry skies.

Who would've predicted
overflowing water,
to dampen spirits
and the bathtub fire?.

It was time for bed.

    1. Thanks very much, Jo and I smiled at the mention of challenges. That short sojourn was when my brother owned property at Waikawau Bay and we were starry eyed. If it wasn’t possums there were rats to unnerve the most hardy of souls.
