The Inspiration Behind the Dream

For many of us, sorting out old photos triggers a multitude of memories, thoughts and, some days, poems and short stories. The following photos of images set the creation of The Coromandel Dream in motion.

First stages of the bush bath area.
Now comes the fun part.
Like, I’m going to go into that bath again?.

The building of the Grand Establishment in Waikawau left a few grown men (a brother and friends who owned the land) in tears of frustration and, eventually, joy when completed. I named it, the Hut, the protector from roaming rodents. Waikawau is an isolated area near the top of the Coromandel peninsula.

The car that nearly didn’t make it up the hills.

  1. Beautiful Coramandel so scenic and peaceful. Do you still have that bush block? I went to coramandel dreaming post, loved that poem, but it wouldn’t let me like or comment. Photos and memories are so precious

    1. Oh, is WP being a pain again regarding commenting. Coromandel Dream post is open to comments etc. Thanks for taking the time to read it, Pauline. No, my brother gained responsibilities as in marriage and children, so, his portion of the property was sold. Not sure if the others still have it. I used to go up often (before I met Les) with them when they were planting nut and various other trees before the hut went up.
