I’m contributing to a Lens Artist Challenge this week by choosing one word to emphasise. My word is Sunrise.
We have passed through the mixed bag of weather we called summer and are a mere few days into Autumn. The days are still warm, the mornings cooler, and the bright green leaves are beginning to lose their vibrance from months of searing sun. Our days are still longer than our nights. The good news is that it is still easy to wake up a little before dawn with an espresso and head outside to sit and watch the sunrise when I’m not out walking.

Wrapping up with another layer and grabbing my coffee, I head out into the cooler grey pre-dawn and settle down in a comfy chair on the balcony with a clear view of the sky facing the direction of the sunrise.
“Be patient where you sit in the dark”, encouraged the poet Rumi: “The dawn is coming.”

Waiting for daylight to seep slowly into the world, I’m a fidgeter and rarely keep still, so I’ve been challenging myself to focus on being in the moment lately and not on what will happen in the future or what happened yesterday.
The sun will rise every day for the remainder of our life’s allotted weeks. But no matter how beautiful they are, we can’t cram in any extra dawns. Rushing will not help. On the other hand, saving the ones we have may help significantly.
So, it’s worth waiting to watch the sunrise; it’s one of life’s prettier and surer things. Isn’t it?
Sunrises from Other Places

The perfect way to start the day! Love a good sunrise and there was a nice one here this morning too. Have a good weekend. Mel

It’s a nice change to sit and take it all in instead of walking the streets. Have a good one, Mel.

Sunrises like bright moons are free vision as well. What do they say? The best things in life are free. I lay in bed last night just gazing at the new moon and thought how peaceful it was..

Oh, that would’ve been peaceful, especially on a calm night. I believe that the best things in life are free, as free as we can make them.

Thank you and nothing quite like the sea to calm us all.

Sunrises are my favorite part of each day. You do have some beautiful ones to share. I always have great expectation for the day ahead, no matter how mundane or ordinary. Each day on this beautiful earth is a gift.

Thanks, Eilene and yes it is a gift to be on this forever changing beautiful earth. Most days are ordinary until they’re not and then we yearn them to be just ordinary.

I’m glad I came over. I was looking for your post about Nana, but that must have only been on Threads? She sounded a wonderful woman. Still, I’m happy to sit and keep you company here, Suzanne. It’s a great view you have and I rarely see sunrise. Thank you! Enjoy your day xx

Thanks Jo, it was a previous post I had written, and I shared it on Threads as it was International Women’s Day. Enjoy your night, Jo xx

Just popped out to Music in the Churches. I like Fado but the seats are hard! xx

My recollections of church seats is that they’re all hard and the kneeling worse. The music would’ve been enjoyable xx

Fortunately we didn’t have to kneel- just sing along and clap! xx

I’m not a sunrise person, though maybe I would become one if I faced east instead of west. You have the most wonderful views over the sea. Hope Les is recuperating well, no more dramas! Hugs to you both 🤗

Thanks, Jude, and we also get to see the sunsets if I poke my head in the opposite direction. Thankfully, there are no more dramas, though I’m anticipating his cancer to react to the lack of a spleen. Thanks for the hugs 😘

Beautiful sunrise skies and an excellent choice of word to inspire us. Like you I often need to make myself focus on being in the moment rather than on what will happen in the future or what happened yesterday. Sunrises are a great reminder that we should appreciate the here and now!

Thanks, Sarah, and I hope your trip to the Philippines went well. My sister in law was originally from near Cebu.

It was a great trip thank you 🙂 We didn’t get to Cebu, but we met up with the Hungry Travellers, Phil and Michaela (do you follow their blog?) in Bohol and they’d just come from Cebu and liked it there.

Beautiful photos + positive thoughts. I like seeing the sunrise, but too many hills and trees around here to experience it clearly. I agree that it’s a challenge to focus on being in the moment, my mind is fidgety and tries to get me to worry.

Thanks, Ally. Having hills and trees add depth to an area. We have hills about though they are further afield from the harbour and beach.
