Her Inner Child – #99wordstory

Evocative dialogue,
intangible bonding
strolling into a sea breeze,
sand stirred by tiny feet.

Two individuals,
one barely on the age scale,
burdened with an old soul
and life experiences
far beyond her years.

The elder reflecting on
how much one-on-one time
was yearned for,
more than they both realised.

The younger sought out attention
as her Mum gave life to yet another,
the elder with surplus unconditional love.

Playfully the child placed her hand
on her companion's voluminous body,
then enquired, "When is your baby due?"

Stopping,
she glanced at the child,
and both burst into unrestrained laughter.

      1. I’m totally always the last one to get it. I was confused since it sounded like there had been another baby in the middle part. Or maybe, as an old acquaintance used to say when she patted her belly, “my food baby!”

        1. The kids’ mum was having another one, and the woman had a “food baby.” All good, Eilene. It was a moment in time that I thought I would extend.
Basketball time soon, so it’s time to get myself organised. Have a good night.
