It’s been simply a week of reflecting, perhaps a smattering of overthinking, moments of stillness and movement, of enjoying the abundance of birdlife, mainly kingfishers and the sounds of the raucous Tui. Plus, the usual hour or two of basketball training.

Doubled picture perfection
On windless days
Even in winter
As the sun stretched low
Her rays like claws
Wrapping the world
in a warm embrace.
Peeking behind clouds
Ready to pounce.

Beautiful bird. Different from our kingfishers.

I was pleased that they were back in the pockets of bush around the estuary and our resident ones in the Pohutukawa’s around our neighbourhood.
