Sheila slowly headed into adulthood, a late starter in a bustling city. Catching the 8.00 am train at Clapham Station. Unfortunately, stood in some dog ordure and tried unsuccessfully to rid herself of the stench. She would be late for work and needed to catch that train to sit beside another. A chatty chap boarded the train, with his lyrical Jamaican accent, tried his darndest to flirt with the friendly woman beside her. Gooseberry Sheila had never laughed so much with this likeable rogue and his corny one-liners. All thoughts of dog ordure vanished, and so did his chances.
Totally agree, Neil. Meeting people at any age is full of challenges and even more compromising. The best way I’ve found is to get out and do what you enjoy and all else falls into place.
That encounter was during the 1980s, and for a young woman from NZ, London was an eye opener. It was my first time hearing a Jamaican person with a Cockney accent. I still remember that experience quite vividly.
Thanks Ruth for the lovely comment. No, I haven’t heard of it. I’ll have a look for it. Or do you have a link? After all these years it is still a vivid memory that makes me smile.
The Instagram note is so true. There are many people out there with whom a person would be compatible. Finding/meeting them isn’t too easy, though.

Ha excellent. I’m glad it’s true. Have you come across The Moth storytelling? You’d be good at it.
