Snapshots of Tauranga #20

I’ve said my goodbyes to winter and now grit my teeth to another month of our turbulent spring with stronger winds and unpredictable weather.

Overall, we had a pretty decent winter here in Tauranga. Many days started freezing, and then the sun warmed us until sundown. Here’s a poem and a few images I’ve quickly captured on my walk to basketball or just for walking sake.

Sunrise – Tauranga Harbour Bridge
The hearty souls maintain
their exercise programs
as icy winds blow and
rain pelts below.
The warm sunrise belies it's
true colours.
Still they walk with sloshing shoes
and step in puddles.
Such dedicated athletes.
Today, I'm not
so dedicated to fresh air.
I'm racing around
a basketball court
waving my arms around.
Sweatin' with the oldies
instead of my daily stroll.
Keeping warm shooting goals.
Unlike those hearty cold souls
outside passing by.
The Spring blossoms have been spectacular across Tauranga. I am pleased to have found out that our previous garden is well-loved and its surrounding area is well maintained.
Just a daffodil.

Sometimes, I hang out at the local Croquet Club, cheering on this chap.

Numerous tui’s can be seen or heard about the estuary, drunk on kowhai.
Best of all, walking with this patient friend who smiles when I say, “Hold on, I’m just going to take a photo”. You’re a gem, Anna. – Waikareao Estuary walkway – Another adventure can be read here – Spoketacular-Tauranga to Maketu
Guess what I found – 7 Spoonbills – not in time for Becky’s September Seven Challenge.
Nothing screams spring more than blossoms.

  1. Gorgeous images Suzanne. I never knew that the Tui was so colourful. Great shot and wonderful contrasting colours. Good to see the Squire having fun and I love the poem. I can see the attraction of exercising indoors in bad weather.

    1. Yes, Les is really enjoying croquet and he’s surrounded by a wonderful bunch of people that keep an eye on him. Though he does tell them he doesn’t need another bossy wife 😉 I am jokingly referred to as Mrs Les by one.

    1. You’re still in Autumn, which for us is usually our most settled season. Though, the weather is becoming more unpredictable. We’ve had a huge deluge of rain in the last 12 hours, and down south (Dunedin) is having unprecedented rainfall with major red warnings in place to self evacuate when necessary.

    1. Thanks Martha, very pleased you enjoyed the poem. I wouldn’t say our weather is warm or even hot. Though it’s 18degs, the heavy rain and gusty wind has made it feel cooler. I like having a mixture of seasons and by the time Autumn ends I look forward to cooler nights.

  2. That sunrise is just so beautiful, Suzanne, and the blossom. Hopefully it won’t blow away too soon. I spotted 5 spoonbills earlier this week- the counting habit is going to be around for a while! We’re all admiring and cheering Les on. I hope he can continue to play through the summer.
