Dawn’s chorus awakened her to the best summer event. Her pocket money was stockpiled, and the question of which bird she would purchase was a delightful mystery. On arrival, she sidestepped flamboyant women judges, their actions seemingly mimicking their fluffed parakeets.
She glanced all around; her eye caught sight of what could be hers.
Cycling home enthusiastically, only to learn by sundown that no bird would reside in a small cage in this household, ceasing any debating. By month’s end, anticipation was palatable as her sizeable outdoor aviary was constructed in the family backyard to house her flighty dreams.
Anyone with flighty dreams is alright in my book!

So, she found out. Plus, it helped that her Dad was handy with a hammer and had a “can-do” attitude. Thankfully, she inherited that attitude 😉 x

She had the aviary for a few years and loved all the various birds until her mum started doing all the work and she had to say goodbye to the aviary.

Must have been a biggie! I dated someone with a pair of lovebirds—that cured me of ever wanting birds for pets!

Hahaha, yep, that would’ve cured me too dating someone with lovebirds. Apart from her tastes in pets (at least they weren’t rodents), she grew up having broader and refined interests, thankfully.

Love it! Where there’s a Willy (wagtail) there’s a way. 😊

I love birds in Nature, but not so sure about them in cages… Having said that, I do feed our native birds and I know I’m not supposed to do that, but when they sit on my outdoor table and sing to me, how can I resist?

As an adult, I agree. Hard to resist feeding them. Unlike seagulls, which are quite easy to say no too😉

A backyard aviary sounds delightful. Much better than a small cage, and almost as good as a forest full of birds. A fun story, Suzanne.

Thanks very much, Diane. Now as a big kid, I much prefer to spend time with birds in their own habitat.

Birds can make great pets and for them a large aviary is a must. Good story.

Thanks very much, and I totally agree that captive birds do need a large aviary. We were fortunate to have a father with a “can do” attitude who built it.
