Something new, something frivolous in acknowledging those small pleasures that can get lost in the humdrum of everyday life.
There are a few of them when I look closer, even on a wet, drizzly autumn day. Though this first one took a while to obtain because I hesitated and debated, none appealed; they weren’t so grand, even after purchasing Les a pair not that long ago.
I was hoping this pleasure would not involve harming an animal. Though, to be fair, that process was carried out humanely for the pleasure of someone wanting lamb chops rather than size 10 plaid sheepskin slippers.

Oh my goodness, who knew such a purchase could bring so much pleasure? Even though it’s not even winter and barely scratching the surface of autumn, wearing them every day since the big splash-out has been bliss. Les already knew this intimate pleasure of wool and hinted at what I was missing out on for quite a while.
Donating Plasma

Okay, on the surface, this experience may not come across as a pleasure for many. Keep reading and don’t judge yet.
My next pleasure this month is donating a small part of me to the blood centre that has been instrumental in providing Les with blood for more years than I care to admit. On top of it, I happen to have a rare blood group, A negative—apparently, only 6% of us in N.Z.

I, and no doubt a few other people, already knew I was a rare gem, though not in demand as I am now, well, at least with the blood bank.
The Best for Last

Being with nature, in a garden, on a bush walk, or while spending time on a beach are some of my favourite haunts to walk. Especially that moment when viewing images, and WOW, you just happened to have captured more than you anticipated. A bit like life, don’t you think?
You have a lovely way of looking at life, Suzanne. My husband is B negative too. There’s an age limit on donating blood here, which seems a shame xx

Thanks very much, Jo, I try to be. I have one of those faces that unfortunately doesn’t lie and if I’m grumpy everyone knows 😉 I’m A negative (I wrote B by mistake, corrected now)and yes we also have an age limit on donating blood.

Mine tends the same way. My feelings are written all over my face, and trying to lie diplomatically never works. I wouldn’t make a politician! xx

I much prefer people who are straight up.

I’m also doing my best to find all the little joys each day. I’ve started keeping a special journal to list at least three each day. Keeping a diary was turning into a gripe and grind. This is much better.
Love your capture of bee and butterfly!
I get wanting to donate blood. I used to do so, but haven’t in a very long time. I don’t know if my A- blood is as uncommon here as there.

Oh my goodness, what were the chances of you having the same blood group 🙂 I’m sure we are less uncommon in America. I wanted to focus on the fun silly things, things that we laugh at though never really mention. Something light hearted. Better than mentioning the unpleasant situations and people that astound me with their stupidity and thoughtlessness.

Yeah, those are the things I want to remember, too, even if they’re trivial.

Also, Eilene. It’s not compulsory in NZ to have a blood test for marriage and many people here have no idea or interest in knowing what their blood group is.

It’s not required here, either, but it was in 1985 when I came “this close” to getting married and didn’t go through with it.

Out of curiosity, I looked up how rare our blood group is in America, approximately the same as in NZ, around 6%.

That’s the figure I remembered, exactly!

Oh, I love everything about this post Suzanne. Your gratitudes for the small things are hardly small things. They’re the simple joys that make everyday worthwhile and precious. And that last shot is beautiful, just wow! x

I’m glad you’re able to take pleasure frrom small things and from being generous (donating plasma) when life is difficult.
And your post reminds me I haven’t donated blood for years. My blood type is the most common of all in the UK but perhaps I should make an effort. It’s still needed.

Thank you, and yes, blood donors are always in demand no matter what group. Life gets busy for most people.

I really should look out my blood donation records and go again – it’s been a while. Your last shot is amazing! the butterfly and bee are lined up so beautifully.

Thanks, Anabel. I’m sure your local blood centre would appreciate seeing you again.

I’m glad you prompted me to look it up because I thought the cut off was 65 – and it is, but only for new donors. Otherwise it’s 72 and I’m not there yet!

The photo with the butterfly is incredible. Thank goodness that cameras exist!

Yes, cameras are a positive and useful gadget to own. Best of all, they have the ability to create and keep our memories alive.

I think we all need to appreciate the small pleasures in life, it’s too easy to focus on the bad stuff. I used to donate blood, but after being turned away because of low iron levels I stopped. Your bee and butterfly shot is magical.

Yes, it is too easy to succumb to negativity. Giving blood can be tiring, so low iron levels would be unpleasant. Hopefully, that’s no longer an issue for you, Jude?

Thanks very much, Mel. Sink or Swim someone bright once told me at the tender age of 17. Still applies for us over 65. It might be a bit rocky this weekend for us. Fingers crossed x

What would we do without a phone camera to snap those unplanned images that pop up in our daily lives?
