On January 3rd, 2016, I was sitting in a cozy kitchen while Les was upstairs in the office, both of us having scoffed down a pastry with a robust coffee after taking the dogs for a walk. In the warmth, we enjoyed watching the snowfall outside in a French village.
I happily read Janis's account of her recent road trip and discovering an extraordinary bookshop. It made me think about the bookshops Les, and I had stumbled across while strolling along city streets, especially one where somebody can find the real heart and soul of a city in iconic places that have defined cool since “cool” became a word.
It's winter here in the Bay; when I groan about how freezing I am when playing basketball on cold indoor courts, my mind occasionally drifts to our time in France, when we experienced the extraordinary phenomenon of a European winter.
